Final Set
The completed curing of concrete or mortar.
Final Value Estimate
Final property appraisal estimate arrived at the use of appropriate appraisal methods.
Finance Charge
Interest and any other charges, including points, that make up the fees incurred when borrowing money.
Financed Closing Costs
Costs for closing of title that are added to the loan amount rather than being paid up front. This practice adds to the amount borrowed, increasing the monthly payment.

Calculator which has numerous built-in financial functions including cash flow analysis, mortgage amortization, present and future yield, yield to maturity and many other business statistics and financial ratios.
Financial Feasibility
The ability of a proposed land use or change of land use to justify itself from an economic point of view.
Financial Institutions and Markets
Institutions acting as intermediaries between suppliers and users of money. They are wholesale and retailers of funds. The financial markets are where those wanting funds are matched with those having surplus funds.
Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery and Enforcement Act (FIRREA)
A federal law passed in 1990 that restructured the regulatory and deposit insurance apparatus dealing with savings and loan associations and changed the rules under which federally regulated S&Ls operate.
Financial Intermediary
A firm, such as a bank or savings and loan association, which performs the function of collecting deposits from individuals and investing them in loans and other securities
Financial Leverage
The use of borrowed money to complete an investment purchase.
Financial Markets

Financial Statement
Report that shows income and expenses for an accounting period and normally consists of a balance sheet, income statement and statement of cash flows.
Financing
The loaning and borrowing of money to buy an item. Financing Fee Interest and any other charges, including points, that make up the fees incurred when borrowing money.

A fee paid to someone who initiates a business transaction between principals.
Fine
  1. Superior in quality. Better than average.
  2. Not coarse. In very small particles.
Fine Aggregate
Sand or stone component used as a filler in the making of concrete, which consists of portland cement, water and the aggregate, which makes up 75 percent of the bulk. Aggregate ranges in size from sand, which is a fine aggregate. Fine aggregates range from sand to a combination of sand, gravel and crushed rock up to ¼ inch in diameter.
Fine Grading
The final, finished grade that brings the soil to the specifications tolerances.
Fine Grain
A small, almost invisible grain such as that found in a clear maple wood or where it is processed to limit the grain size.
Fine Nail
Molding or trim finishing nail that is used where a very small hole is desirable.
Fine Tex
Finished pattern made on a wall or ceiling by spraying on a texture of medium-size droplets, which is then flattened with a trowel.
Fineness Modulus
Index that lists the average coarseness of aggregate in concrete.
Fines
Cement mixture, which is used to finish masonry surfaces because of its very fine particles. When applied with a burlap cloth, it gives a uniform, thin coating on the surface.
Fine-tuned
Precisely adjusted. Fingering Also called tails, this defect in airless spray painting, has an application of thick streaks of paint in certain places rather than uniform thickness.
Finger Joint
Narrow extensions of wood, resembling fingers, are cut in the ends of pieces of two pieces of wood so that they interlock and form a joint. When the extensions are glued together, they form a level surface.
Finial
Decorative, ornamental shape, such as the spire at the tip of a spire, the top of a lampshade, or the projection upward from the top of a cabinet or breakfront.
Finish
Anything used to give a desired surface appearance.
Finish Carpentry
The final, detail carpentry done to bring a job to a finished state, such as moldings around door and windows, fascia and cabinet installation.
Finish Coat
The final coat of and surface covering such as paint, plaster, etc.
Finish Floor
Second layer of flooring material placed over the rough flooring or flooring planks in a structure and is often a polished floor made of oak or other hardwoods.
Finish Grade
Grading that prepares a lot for landscaping.
Finish Hardware
Trim and functional hardware such as knobs, cabinet latches and drawer pulls, needed to "finish" a job.
Finish Out Allowance
Provision in a commercial lease, providing a financial allowance of a certain sum or amount per square foot, for a tenant to finish the interior of a building according to individual requirements.
Finish Plumbing
Installation of plumbing fixtures to make the system usable.
Finish Stringer
Ornamental, trim piece of horizontal board on the outside of a stair carriage.
Finishing
The application of the final coat or touches to a surface.
Finishing Nail
Nail, which is used for trim molding and in places where nail holes must be very small, because it is a slender nail with a semi-spherical head which is not much larger than the its body (the shank).
Finned-tube Radiation Unit
Device for hot water heat distribution which passes hot water through hollow metal pipes with thin, sheet metal fins which are bonded at right angles to the outside of the tube. When hot water passes through the tube, heat is conducted into the fins to disperse into the room, increasing the heating surface area of the tube.
